A method of dyeing or otherwise treating an elongate fabric material including slide fastener stringers comprises winding said fabric material on a rotatable frame means disposed in a dye chamber and reducing the diameter of said frame means to an extent necessary to compensate for the amount of shrinkage developed in said fabric material during the dyeing operation. A dyeing apparatus for dyeing or otherwise treating an elongate fabric material comprises a cylindrical vessel and a beam mounted concentrically therein and removable therefrom, the beam having a plurality of chambers isolated one from another and a dye frame unit rotatably mounted on a driven shaft extending axially through the beam, a first motor rotating the driven shaft and a second motor operatively associated with means for moving the driven shaft axially toward and away from the first motor, and means radially movable toward and away from the driven shaft to adjust the overall diameter of the dye frame unit on which the fabric material is wound.
Une méthode pour teindre ou autrement traiter un objet allongé en tissu, telles les demi-chaînes d'une fermeture à glissière, consiste à enrouler l'objet de tissu sur un châssis tournant placé dans une chambre de teinture et à réduire le diamètre dudit châssis dans la mesure nécessaire pour compenser le degré de rétrécissement subi par ledit objet en tissu durant l'opération de teinture. Un appareil pour teindre ou autrement traiter un objet allongé en tissu comprend un récipient cylindrique et un bras amovible qui s'y trouve monté de façon concentrique, le bras ayant plusieurs chambres isolées les unes des autres et un châssis de teinture tournant monté sur un arbre commandé s'étendant axialement dans le bras, un premier moteur faisant tourner l'arbre commandé et un deuxième moteur fonctionnellement associé ayant des moyens pour déplacer l'arbre commandé vers le premier moteur ou l'en éloigner, et des moyens pouvant s'approcher ou s'éloigner de l'arbre commandé pour ajuster le diamètre global du châssis de teinture sur lequel l'objet en tissu est enroulé.
