44 ABSTRACT: Method of and device for determining the NMR-distribution of spin nuclei in a region of a body. The invention proposes a method and a device in which free induction signals (generated for NMR imaging) are sampled in the presence of a (quasi-)static and time modulated gradient magnetic field, the gradient direction of the fields applied being mutually perpen- dicular. The free induction signal is conditioned prior to the start of sampling and then provides sampling signals which are associated with image frequencies (in an image frequency space (kx, ky) which is the (2-D) Fourier transform of the actual (x, y) image space) which are a function of the applied gradient fields. The (quasi-) static gradient field always produces a (stepwise) increase (for example, in kx), whilst the time modulated gradient field always produces an image frequency which varies between two limits (ky and ky + .DELTA.ky). Consequently, the invention enables data to be determined within an entire band in kx, ky space at a time; this is in contrast with the present state of the art (DE 26.11.497) where data can be collected only along a single straight line at a time (kx or ky is constant).
