PHN. 8304. 8-12-1976. ABSTRACT: A method of plasma MIG welding in which a consumable current-carrying welding wire is melted in a gas plasma produced by a plasma arc between a nozzle and a workpiece; for starting the welding process first a plasma arc is ignited between a non-consumable starter electrode in the welding torch and the workpiece by means of a high-frequency discharge, the MIG arc is then struck spontaneously by introducing the welding wire into the gas plasma and finally the nozzle is connected electrically to the starter electrode so that the plasma arc root jumps over from the starter electrode to the nozzle; the starter electrode and the nozzle are connected to the same supply source, the starter electrode via a high-frequency generator and the nozzle via a switch. - 9 -
