A method and device for speech signal digital coding are described, where spectral parameters are quantized at each frame in order to exploit the actual correlation inside a frame or between contiguous frames. The quantization devices recognize strongly-correlated signal periods by using a first set of indexes, representing the parameters and provided by the spectral analysis circuits, and in these periods they convert the first set of indexes into a second set of indexes which can be coded with a lower number of bits and which is inserted into the coded signal in place of the first set of indexes.
L'invention est constituée par une méthode et un dispositif de codage numérique de signaux vocaux dans lesquels des paramètres spectraux sont quantifiés à chaque bloc pour exploiter la corrélation interne ou la corrélation entre blocs contigus. Les dispositifs de quantification reconnaissent les périodes de signal fortement corrélées en utilisant un premier ensemble d'indices représentant les paramètres qui est fourni par les circuits d'analyse spectrale et, durant ces périodes, convertissent ce premier ensemble d'indices en un second ensemble qui peut être codé avec un moins grand nombre de bits et qui peut être inséré dans le signal codé à la place du premier ensemble d'indices.
