ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE To facilitate the drying of a log to be cured, the same if cored to remove the heartwood. The barked and cored log can then be exposed to air or some other gas for dehydration, the gas circulating both around it and through the axial bore formed therein. Coring may be carried out with the aid of an elongate tool having a boring head on a hollow stem whose interior forms a channel provided with lateral ports to let high-pressure air form a jacket around the stem for guidance and cooling.
