To be able to switch between two data streams (d1, d2) that are identical or similar in content without introducing errors, particularly without data losses, the two data streams are compared for time offset, and if a time offset between the two data streams (d1, d2) has been compensated for, switching is effected from the compared first data stream (d1) to the compared second data stream (d2). The switching facility for accomplishing this comprises a comparator circuit for comparing the two data streams (d1, d2) for time offset, a compensator (4) to compensate for the time offset, and a switching device (S) for switching from the compared first data stream (d1) to the compared second data stream (d2) if the time offset has been compensated for.
