A method of applying an essentially non-slumping, sprayable refractory castable composition to a surface is disclosed comprising (a) preparing a tempered, pumpable first component comprising (i) 100 weight percent of a refractory composition comprising from about 50.0 weight perecent to 99.9 weight percent of a high purity silicone dioxide, and from about 0.1 weight percent to about 30.0 weight percent of a binder, and (ii) form about 0 weight percent to 30 weight percent water based upon 100 percent of the refractory composition, wherein the water is present in an amount sufficient to achieve a pumpable consistency of the first component to enable the first component to be pumped and applied through pump means, associated hose means and associated nozzle means, (b) adding a second component comprising a flocculating agent, to the first component to form a sprayable refractory castable composition at or just prior to the time of application of the sprayable refractory castable composition, (c) introducing air through the nozzle means just prior to the time of the application of the sprayable refractory castable composition, and (d) applying the sprayable refractory castable composition to the surface without the use of forms. A method of applying a high purity silicon dioxide refractory composition is also provided including casting with the use of forms.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'application, sur une surface, d'une composition essentiellement coulable réfractaire pulvérisable et ne s'affaissant pas, qui comporte les étapes consistant à: (a) préparer un premier constituant gâché pompable comportant (1) 100 % en poids d'une composition réfractaire renfermant d'environ 50,0 % en poids à 99,9 % en poids d'un dioxyde de silicium de haute pureté, et d'environ 0,1 % en poids à environ 30,0 % en poids d'un liant, et (2) d'environ 0 % en poids à 30 % en poids d'eau pour 100 % en poids de composition réfractaire, la quantité d'eau étant suffisante pour obtenir une consistance pompable du premier constituant lui permettant d'être pompé et appliqué à l'aide d'un dispositif de pompe, d'un moyen de tuyau associé et d'un moyen de buse associée; (b) ajouter au premier constituant un deuxième constituant renfermant un floculant pour former une composition coulable réfractaire pulvérisable au moment d'appliquer, ou juste avant d'appliquer la composition réfractaire coulable pulvérisable; (c) introduire de l'air par le moyen de buse juste avant d'appliquer la composition coulable réfractaire pulvérisable; et (d) appliquer la composition coulable réfractaire pulvérisable sur la surface sans utiliser de moules.
