ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided herein for avoiding an inhibiting intermix- ing of the atmosphere which exists in an enclosed space, such as the safety containment of a reactor with a gaseous substance present in the same space. According to the inventive method, a change in density of the atmosphere is induced in an area of the space such that an essentially stable, vertically stratified atmosphere is formed because of the change in density.
