The present invention proposes a method for calculating radiation energy exchanges rapidly and accurately. Near a calculation cell where energy exchange occurs, a small (level 0) cell is used and at a location remote from the calculation cell P, a large (level n) cell formed by combining plural small cells is used. Furthermore, the largest calculation cell which comes into a field of view angle .DELTA. .OMEGA. covered by a ray is selected. As a result, the accuracy of the radiation eneregy exchange calculation is enhanced, the calculation time is shortened and the amount of memory necessary for the calculation can be reduced.
