A method of calculating the required cylindrical power of a toric implant by using both the measured pre-operative corneal/ocular astigmatism and the predicted surgically-induced astigmatism. The post-operative corneal/ocular astigmatism is predicted using power vector analysis of the surgical technique employed by the surgeon. Such a method provides a more accurate method of calculating the required spherocylindrical refractive power of the implant. The method can be implemented manually, but preferably is automated by implementation on a computer through appropriate software.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour calculer la puissance cylindrique nécessaire d'un implant torique sur la base à la fois de l'astigmatisme cornéen/oculaire mesuré avant l'opération et de l'astigmatisme prévu après l'intervention chirurgicale. L'astigmatisme cornéen/oculaire postopératoire est prévu par analyse du vecteur de puissance de la technique employée par le chirurgien. Ce procédé est plus précis pour calculer la puissance de réfraction sphérocylindrique nécessaire de l'implant. Ledit procédé peut être appliqué manuellement, mais il est de préférence automatisé par l'utilisation d'un ordinateur et d'un logiciel approprié.
