-10- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of changing the color of minerals and gems based thereon used in jewelry, consisting in exposure of mi- nerals to neutron and associated gamma radiation, in a re- actor, the minerals being irradiated with fast neutrons having an energy of at least 0.5 meV, in integral doses of 5?1015 to 1?1018 n/sq.cm, and with gamma rays, in integral doses of 5?106 to 1?1019 R, at a temperature of no more than 300°C. The invention makes it possible to improve the deco- rative qualities of minerals and gems based thereon used in jewelry, hence, to enhance their commercial value.
