In order to check the rate of removal of pyrogenic substances, in particular viruses, from organic material, the material to be purified is passed through an ultrafilter or an ultrafiltration unit whose virus-removal rate has already been determined by passing viruses of the Leviviridae family or other, comparable, small bacteriophages through the filter or filtration unit, the virus titer determined before and after the filtration operation and the virus-removal rate thus calculated. Before or after determining the virus-removal rate, a given pressure is applied to the filter or filtration unit in a gas pressure-hold test, and the decrease in pressure over a given period is measured. After filtration of the biological material, the rate of virus removal by the filter is checked by repeating the pressure-hold test.
Afin de contrôler le taux d'appauvrissement de matériaux organiques en substances pyrogènes, notamment en virus, on fait passer le matériau à purifier à travers un ultrafiltre ou à travers une unité d'ultrafiltration dont on a déterminé au préalable le taux d'appauvrissement en appliquant au filtre ou à l'unité de filtration des virus de la famille des Leviviridae ou d'autres petits bactériophages comparables, en déterminant le titre des virus avant et après leur filtration et en endéduisant le taux d'appauvrissement. Avant ou après la détermination du taux d'appauvrissement, on applique au filtre ou à l'unité de filtration, pendant un test du maintien de la pression, un gaz sous une pression de contrôle prédéterminée, on détermine la chute de pression pendant une période prédéterminée et on contrôle le taux d'appauvrissement du filtre, une fois la filtration du matériau biologique achevée, en effectuant encore une fois le test du maintien de la pression.
