Abstract of the Invention A welded wire mesh strip employed to reinforce a concrete pipe coating has its longitudinal wires deformed to an extent that increases progressively across the strip. The coating is applied to the pipe by rotation of the pipe while moving it past a concrete spraying station and simultaneously winding the reinforcing strip onto the concrete to become embedded therein. The non-uniform deformation of the longitudinal wires enables the strip to accomodate to the frustoconical shape that the exposed concrete temporarily assumes at the spraying station.
