A method of coating a metallic article having an at least part-metallic surface comprising a first metal, with a surface having a pre-determined wettability, the method at least comprising the steps of: (a) coating at least a part of the metallic article with a layer of a second metal to provide a metal-metal bonded surface, said surface being rough either prior to or because of step (a); and (b) contacting the metal-metal bonded surface of step (a) with a material to provide the surface having the pre-determined wettability. The first metal may be one or more of the group comprising: iron, zinc, copper, tin, nickel and aluminium, and alloys thereof including steel, brass, bronze and nitinol for example. Preferably, the second metal is coated onto the first metal using electroless Galvanic deposition. The nature of the coated metallic article is non-limiting, as the ability of the present invention is to provide a tailored surface with a pre-determined wettability thereon, including superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic wettability. This allows the invention to be capable of application to a wide range of metal types used in different fields.
La présente invention concerne un procédé visant à recouvrir un article métallique, comportant au moins une surface partiellement métallique comprenant un premier métal, d'une surface de mouillabilité prédéterminée, lequel procédé comprend au moins les étapes consistant : (a) à recouvrir au moins une partie de l'article métallique d'une couche d'un deuxième métal afin qu'on obtienne une surface collée métal sur métal, ladite surface étant rugueuse soit au préalable, soit du fait de l'étape (a); et (b) à mettre la surface collée métal sur métal de l'étape (a) en contact avec un matériau de façon qu'on obtienne la surface à mouillabilité prédéterminée. Le premier métal peut être un ou plusieurs métaux du groupe comprenant : le fer, le zinc, le cuivre, l'étain, le nickel et l'aluminium ainsi que des alliages de ceux-ci tels que l'acier, le laiton, le bronze et le nitinol. Le deuxième métal est de préférence appliqué sur le premier métal par dépôt galvanique autocatalytique. La nature de l'article métallique recouvert est non limitative, du fait que l'objectif de cette invention est de produire sur celui-ci une surface adaptée à mouillabilité prédéterminée, y compris à mouillabilité superhydrophobe et superhydrophile, ce qui permet à cette invention d'être applicable à une vaste gamme de types de métaux utilisés dans différents domaines.
