A method for coating paper, wherein a coating composition containing coating particles is applied to the surface of a paper web containing lignocellulosic fibres to produce a coated paper web having coating particles bound to the paper web, and the coated web is dried. According to the method the surface area of the interface between the paper web and the coating particles is increased in order to enhance hydrogen bonding between the coating particles and the fibres of the web. The surface area can be increased by using a coating composition comprising fine fibrous material or by abrading the surface of the paper or paperboard web or both. The invention will improve the smoothness of the surface without addition of foreign polymer binding agents to the web.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de revêtement de papier, selon lequel on applique une composition de revêtement contenant des particules de revêtement sur la surface d'une bande continue de papier contenant des fibres lignocellulosiques afin d'obtenir une bande de papier munie d'un revêtement dont les particules de revêtement sont liées à la bande, et l'on sèche la bande munie du revêtement. Selon le procédé de la présente invention, on augmente l'aire spécifique de l'interface entre la bande de papier et les particules de revêtement afin de renforcer la liaison hydrogène entre les particules de revêtement et les fibres de la bande continue. On peut augmenter l'aire spécifique au moyen d'une composition comprenant une matière fibreuse fine ou en abrasant la surface de la bande continue de papier ou de carton, ou en utilisant ces deux moyens. La présente invention permet d'améliorer le lissé de la surface sans devoir ajouter à la bande des agents liants polymères extérieurs.
