A method for changing the residual aligning torque (RAT) of a pneumatic tire by forming angled sipes in certain of the tread blocks in at least a pair of circumferentially extending ribs, each rib being located on an opposite side of the 5mid-circumferential plane of the tire. The sipes in the tread blocks in one of the ribs are formed at an inclined angle opposite to the inclined angle of the sipes in the tread blocks in the opposite rib. The RAT can also be changed by varying the depth and width of the opposed angled sipes.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de modifier le couple résiduel d'alignement d'un pneumatique par formation de lamelles inclinées dans certains des pavés dans une paire de nervures s'étendant sur la périphérie, chaque nervure étant située sur le côté opposé du quintuple plan périphérique du pneumatique. Les lamelles formées dans les pavés de l'une des nervures sont formées dans un angle incliné à l'opposé de l'angle incliné des lamelles formées dans les pavés dans la nervure opposée. Le couple résiduel d'alignement peut également être modifié par modification de la profondeur et de la largeur des lamelles inclinées opposées.
