A method of conditioning a membrane biological reactor mixed liquor containing one or more nonionic polysac-charides and/or one or more organic molecules is disclosed. The method comprises: a) selecting one or more anionic polymers, b) adding a composition containing one or more water soluble anionic polymers selected from step (2) to the mixed liquor, c) adding one or more water soluble amphoteric cationic or zwitteronic polymers, or combination thereof to the mixed liquor after perform-ing step (b).
