ABSTRACT: There is disclosed a method of controlling a web feeding device comprising a pair of center blocks disposed on predetermined movable members to oppose each other with their axes being aligned to perform loading and unloading of a web roll by moving closer to or farther from each other, a lifter disposed adjacent to said movable members and ascendably driven having loaded the web roll thereon and a sensor which detects alignment of said pair of center blocks with the core tube of the web roll; wherein: said pair of center blocks are stopped at a prede- termined position in the ascending stroke of said lifter by moving said movable members; said lifter loading the web roll thereon is ascended; and the alignment of said core tube of the web roll with said pair of center blocks is detected by said sensor to perform control of stopping instantaneously the ascending motion of said lifter.
