A method of providing papermaking fibers with durable curl comprising: a) introducing papermaking fiber into a rotatable drum adapted for operation at elevated pressure; b) rotating the drum containing the papermaking fiber while maintaining: i) the fiber in aqueous dispersion having a consistency of from about 5 to about 45 percent; ii) a temperature of above about 100 ~C; the drum being configured such that the aqueous fiber dispersion contacts the rotating wall of the drum during rotation thereof and the mechanical action of the drum on the dispersion provides a durable curl to the papermaking fiber; removing the curled fiber from the rotatable drum wherein the temperature, time, consistency and energy input to the fiber are controlled such that fibers treated exhibit a curl elevation of at least 50 percent at 1 hour storage time.

L'invention concerne une méthode permettant d'obtenir des fibres pour la fabrication de papier présentant une frisure durable. Cette méthode consiste à: a) introduire des fibres de fabrication de papier dans un tambour rotatif conçu pour fonctionner sous une pression élevée; b) faire tourner le tambour contenant les fibres de fabrication de papier tout en maintenant: i) les fibres dans une dispersion aqueuse présentant une consistance comprise entre 5 % environ et 45 % environ; ii) une température supérieure à 100 ·C; le tambour étant conçu de sorte que la dispersion de fibres aqueuse soit en contact avec la paroi rotative du tambour lors de sa rotation, et que l'action mécanique du tambour sur la dispersion permette d'obtenir une frisure durable des fibres de fabrication de papier; retirer les fibres frisées du tambour rotatif, la température, la durée, la consistance et l'énergie envoyées dans la fibre étant contrôlées de sorte que les fibres traitées présentent une élévation de frisure d'au moins 50 %, pour une durée de stockage d'une heure.
