The invention relates to a method of defining a supplementary or clip-on face (10) for spectacles. The inventive method comprises the following steps consisting in: first selecting (20) a lens (6) that is adapted to the prescription of the presbyope, modelling (22) the position of the selected lens (6) and the position of a supplementary face (10) in front of the selected lens, and choosing (24) an optical function for the assembly comprising the selected lens (6) and the supplementary face (10). The characteristics of the supplementary face (10) are calculated by means of optical optimisation for a standard spectacle wearer, using the chosen optical function as an optimisation target. The supplementary face thus obtained provides the lens wearer with the chosen optical function. Said face extends over the entire surface of the lens and guarantees the continuity of the optical function over all of said surface.

On modélise (22) ensuite la position du verre (6) choisi et de la position d'une face supplémentaire (10) devant le verre choisi. On choisit (24) une fonction optique pour l'ensemble du verre (6) choisi et de la face supplémentaire (10). Les caractéristiques de la face supplémentaire (10) sont calculées par optimisation optique pour un porteur standard, en utilisant comme cible d'optimisation Ia fonction optique choisie. La face supplémentaire ainsi obtenue assure au porteur du verre la fonction optique choisie. Elle s'étend sur l'ensemble de la surface du verre et assure la continuité de la fonction optique sur toute la surface du verre.
