A METHOD OF DEFLUORINATING PHOSPHORIC ACID ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of defluorinating phosphoric acid contain- ing fluorine compounds which are present particularly in quan- tities of about 0.3% by weight of fluorine relative to phos- phoric acid, expressed as P2O5, wherein the final product contains less than 10 p.p.m. of fluorine relative to phos- phoric acid, expressed as P2O5. Phosphoric acid, in solution in an organic solvent which is only slightly miscible with water, is washed with an aqueous solution of a soluble compound of one of the metals Al, Fe, Ti or Zr; an aqueous phase containing the fluorine compounds is separated; and an organic phase is collected, from which the solvent and the purified phosphoric acid are regenerated. Phosphoric acid defluorinated by the method of the invention may be used for nutritional purposes.
