The present invention involves a method of assessing a test subject for cortical damage by measuring the depth perception of that test subject and comparing to a suitable control. Assessment of cortical damage is important in the prognosis of diseases and/or conditions such as glaucoma, head trauma, neurodegenerative diseases and in the evaluation of treatment effects of neuroprotective drugs.
