Methods for detecting or diagnosing gynecological carcinomas in a patient are provided. One method, which involves assaying for the presence of lysophosphatidic acid in a plasma sample of the patient, is useful for detecting ovarian carcinoma, cervical carcinoma, endometrical carcinoma, and peritoneal carcinoma. In a preferred embodiment the method comprises: providing a blood specimen from the patient, obtaining a plasma sample for the blood specimen under conditions which minimize the release of lysophosphatidic acid from the platelets in the blood specimen into the plasma, extracting lipids from the plasma, and detecting the presence of lysophosphatidic acid in the lipid. Another method involves assaying for the presence of lysophosphatidyl inositol in a bodily fluid, preferably plasma, from the subject. Another method involves assaying for the presence of elevated levels of lysophosphatidic acid and lysophosphatidyl inositol in a bodily fluid from the subject.
Cette invention concerne des méthodes de détection ou de diagnostic de cancers gynécologiques chez une patiente. Une de ces méthodes, qui repose sur une évaluation de la présence d'acide lysophosphatidique dans un échantillon de plasma de la patiente, convient bien pour la détection des cancers des ovaires, du col de l'utérus, de l'endomètre et du péritoine. Selon un mode de réalisation préféré, cette méthode consiste à :prélever un spécimen de sang chez la patiente ; réaliser un échantillon de plasma à partir du spécimen de sang dans des conditions telles que la libération d'acide lysophosphatidique par les plaquettes dans le spécimen de sang soit réduite au minimum ; extraire des lipides du plasma ; et détecter la présence d'acide lysophosphatidique dans lesdits lipides. Une autre méthode consiste à évaluer la présence de lysophosphatidyl dans un liquide organique, du plasma de préférence, prélevé sur un sujet. Selon une autre méthode encore, on évalue la présence de niveaux élevés d'acide lysophosphatidique et de lysophosphatydil dans un liquide organique prélevé sur un sujet.
