It is intended to provide: a method of detecting the onset risk of encephalitis or encephalopathy; a method of determining the safety of a drug to be administered by judging whether or not it induces encephalitis or encephalopathy; and a method of screening a candidate for a drug for treating encephalitis or encephalopathy. The detection method as described above comprises preparing a specimen containing the voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) originating in a patient with a fear of the onset of encephalitis or encephalopathy, measuring the VDAC expression level in the specimen, and then detecting the onset risk of encephalitis or encephalopathy by using an increase in the expression level as an indication.

L'invention porte sur un procédé de détection des signes précurseurs d'un risque d'encéphalite ou d'encéphalopathie, et sur un procédé de détermination de l'innocuité d'un médicament à administrer en évaluant s'il induit ou non une encéphalite ou une encéphalopathie. Ledit procédé de détection consiste: à préparer un échantillon contenant le canal anionique dépendant de la tension (VDAC) provenant d'un patient présentant un risque d'encéphalite ou d'encéphalopathie; à mesurer le niveau d'expression du VDAC de l'échantillon; puis à détecter les signes précurseurs du risque en utilisant comme indication l'accroissement dudit niveau d'expression.
