A method is provided for the diagnosis of a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) or prion disease in an animal which comprises assaying a sample obtained from said animal to determine the number of hematopoietic cells of the erythroid, megakaryocyte or platelet cell lineages in the sample or an expression product thereof.

L'invention concerne une méthode permettant de diagnostiquer chez un animal une encéphalopathie spongiforme transmissible (TSE) ou une maladie à prion, qui consiste à doser un échantillon obtenu à partir de l'animal afin de déterminer le nombre de cellules hématopoïétiques des lignées cellulaires d'érythrocytes, de mégakaryocytes ou de plaquettes dans l'échantillon ou dans un produit d'expression de celles-ci.
