One dimensional proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy of human stool can be used as non-invasive method of detecting the presence of colorectal cancer and/or clinically significant adenomas. A stool sample is mixed with a buffer to form a suspension, the suspension is centrifuged to yield a supernatant sample, which is subjected to magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and the resulting spectrum is compared with that of stool from non-cancerous subjects, observed differences in spectra being indicative of cancer and/or clinically significant adenomas.
Aux fins de l'invention, on utilise la spectroscopie à résonance magnétique protonique unidimensionnelle pour examiner les selles humaines en mode non invasif et déceler la présence de cancer colorectal et/ou d'adénome colorectal important du point de vue clinique. On mélange un échantillon de selles avec un tampon pour former une suspension, soumise à centrifugation pour donner un échantillon surnageant, lequel est soumis à la spectrosocopie susmentionnée, et le spectre résultant est comparé avec celui des celles de sujets non cancéreux. Les différences de spectre observées permettent de déceler la présence de cancer colorectal et/ou d'adénome colorectal important du point de vue clinique.
