ABSTRACT A method of treating leprosy in an individual wherein the lymphokines gamma-interferon or interleukin-2, either separately or together, are administered to the individual is disclosed. A diagnostic test for leprosy is also given wherein peripheral blood mononuclear cells from an infected individual are contacted with an antigen or mitogen and the gamma-interferon released from the cells is measured. The antigen in the diagnostic test may be Myobacterium leprae or conconavalin A.
