The object of the present invention is to provide a method of diverting an article from a conveyor by a pusher and a device therefor which can offer a high speed sortation rate while producing minimal impact to the articles being diverted on a conveyor. Said method of diverting an article (11) from a conveyor (12) to a take-away device (13) by a pusher assembly (10) with a pusher member (22), the conveyor (12) transporting the article (11) from an upstream end to a downstream end of the conveyor (12), the article (11) having a downstream end and a side, comprises the steps of: pushing a portion of the side of the article (11) with the pusher member (22) in a generally lateral direction across the conveyor (12); rolling the pusher member (22) against the side of the article (11); and rotating the article (11) in one of a counter clockwise direction and a clockwise direction while pushing the side of the article (11) to direct the article (11) toward the take-away device (13).

Ledit procédé destiné à évacuer un article (11) d'une bande transporteuse (12) vers un dispositif d'évacuation (13) à l'aide d'un ensemble poussoir (10) doté d'un élément (22) poussoir, la bande transporteuse transportant l'article (11) d'une extrémité amont à une extrémité aval de la bande (12) et l'article (11) ayant une extrémité aval et un côté, consiste à pousser une partie du côté de l'article (11) à l'aide de l'élément (22) poussoir dans un sens généralement latéral en travers de la bande (12), à faire rouler l'élément (22) poussoir contre le côté de l'article (11) et à faire tourner l'article (11) soit dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre, soit dans le sens inverse, tout en poussant le côté de l'article (11) pour diriger ce dernier (11) vers le dispositif d'évacuation (13).
