Abstract The invention relates to a method af drying a particulate material which is thereafter to be heat- -treated, the material and a gaseous drying medium being brought in contact with each other in a drying appara- tus, where water is made to pass from the material to the drying medium by heating. According to the invention a pressure above atmospheric is maintained in the drying apparatus and the drying medium in the drying apparatus is substantially steam. Heating is carried out by means of excess heat generated in the heat treatment.
