ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of heating underground hydrocarbon deposits by impressing an electric current through the deposits with a voltage applied across a pair of electrodes buried in said deposits is disclosed. In the method, the deposits are heated by using the commercial frequency of 50 or 60 Hz in the initial stage of current impression where the temperature of the deposits is low and by using a frequency lower than said commercial frequencies in the later stage of current impression where the temperature of the deposits is high.
