A method for determining the number of millicuries to be administered to a patient so as to deliver a given centigray (cGy) dose to either the patient's lean body of the patient's total body. The method includes the steps of injecting a radioactive tracer into a patient, determining radiation levels in the whole body, calculating a geometric mean based on the radiation levels, determining the percent-injected activity remaining in the body at each time point, plotting the percent-injected activity versus calculated time from infusion on a log-linear graph, determining the effective half-life and the rate of clearance from the log-linear graph, cross-indexing the effective half- life value with the patient's body weight, and multiplying the determined amount of therapeutic millicuries per centigray by the amount of desired centigray to be administered.
Procédé visant à déterminer le nombre de millicuries à administrer à un patient pour délivrer une certaine dose de centigrays (cGy), soit à la masse maigre du corps du patient, soit à son corps total. Ledit procédé consiste à injecter un traceur radioactif à un patient, à déterminer les niveaux de rayonnement dans le corps entier, à calculer une moyenne géométrique en fonction des niveaux de rayonnement, à déterminer le pourcentage de principe actif injecté restant dans le corps à chaque instant, à établir le tracé du pourcentage de principe actif injecté en fonction du temps calculé à partir de l'injection sur un graphique log-linéaire, à déterminer la demi-vie effective et la vitesse de clairance à partir du graphique log-linéaire, à indexer de façon croisée la valeur de la demi-vie effective avec le poids corporel du patient, et à multiplier la quantité déterminée de millicuries thérapeutiques par centigray par la quantité de centigrays que l'on souhaite administrer.
