Provided is a method of evaluating a superconducting wire which can readily evaluate change of its superconductivity such as a critical current density. The method of evaluating a superconducting wire comprises steps of measuring an acoustic transfer characteristic value (Re) of the superconducting wire before applying mechanical strain, measuring an acoustic transfer characteristic value (Pre) of the superconducting wire after applying mechanical strain, finding a relative acoustic deviation (a) between the acoustic transfer characteristic values (Re) and (Pre) with respect to mechanical strain applied to the superconducting wire, varying the strain (.epsilon.) for finding the relative acoustic deviation (.sigma.) with respect to each strain thereby finding the relation between the strain and the relative acoustic deviation (.sigma.), and evaluating the superconductivity of the superconducting wire from the relation between the strain and the relative acoustic deviation (.sigma.).
