An environmentally benign process for remediating contaminated matter includes contact with a lixiviant. The lixiviant contains a chelating agent which chemically reacts with a selected contaminant, forming a chelate soluble within the lixiviant and thus extracting the selected contaminant from the matter. The lixiviant, including the chelate, is separated from the particulate matter, and chemically treated to demobilize the chelate. The selected contaminant is separated from the lixiviant and sent for disposal or further processing. The remidiated matter is also sent for disposal or further processing.
Cette invention concerne un procédé sans danger pour l'environnement de dépollution de matières contaminées par mise en contact avec un lixiviant. Ce lixiviant contient un chélateur qui réagit chimiquement avec une substance contaminante donnée pour former dans le lixiviant un chélate soluble et extraire la substance contaminante de la matière. Le lixiviant, dont le chélate, est séparé de la matière particulaire et soumis à un traitement chimique destiné à démobiliser le chélate. La substance contaminante est séparée du lixiviant avant d'être éliminée ou soumise à une transformation ultérieure. La matière dépolluée est elle aussi expédiée pour élimination ou transformation ultérieure.
