ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is disclosed for facilitating the operation of terminals equipped with an input keyboard whose function keys can be assigned fixed and/or variable functions and with a display unit on which a text explaining the function of the function keys can be displayed. Such a method is provided to reduce the number of required keystrokes and to result in optimized operation. For this purpose, the actuation for the execution of the respective function as well as the actuation of the display of the respective function are executed solely with the aid of the respective function key and the selection of the two possible actuations is made by the manner and/or extent of actuation of the respective function key. It is further provided that the actuation of a help key displays on the display unit in groups or individually the performance features that are possible or executable in the respective current operating state of the terminal. - 23 -
