METHOD OF FIRING PERFORATING GUN AND SIMULTANEOUSLY RECORDING DOWNHOLE PRESSURE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A casing type jet perforating gun is located downhole in a cased borehole adjacent to a hydrocarbon containing formation. A gun firing head is connected to the uphole end of the casing gun. A capillary tubing is wound on a large reel, and the lower end of the tubing is connected to support an apparatus for actuating the gun firing head. The gun firing head, when actuated, detonates the shaped charges and perforates the casing. The upper end of the capillary tubing is connected to a supply of fluid which flows at a measured pressure and flow rate, The lower end of the tubing is open so that flow can occur from the fluid supply, through the en-tire length of the capillary tubing, and out of the lower open end of the tubing. The gun firing device is lowered down through the tubing of the borehole by rotating the reel until the device is positioned in close proximity to the gun firing head. The downhole pressure is measured from the surface. The capillary tubing is next used to manipulate the gun firing device so that it contacts the gun firing head causing the charges of the gun to be detonated to thereby perforate the casing and complete the well. A surface recorder monitors the downhole conditions during the completion of the well. The apparatus is left downhole until the well has been cleaned up and thereafter shut-in to enable the shut-in pressure at the formation to be measured. - 1 -
