A method and apparatus for writing a Bragg grating in a photosensitive optical waveguide is disclosed. The novel method comprises an interferometer having precisely adjustable light collecting and directing components. A phase mask illuminated with ultraviolet light is used as the interferometer light source. The adjustability of the interferometer allows the writing of Bragg gratings for filtering wavelengths in the range 1275 nm to 1575 nm while adjusting the appropriate interferometer elements by only +/- 0.75° each.

Méthode et appareil pour enregistrer un réseau de Bragg dans un guide d'onde optique photosensible. La méthode comprend un interféromètre ayant des composants de captage et d'orientation de lumière réglables avec précision. Un masque de phase illuminé à la lumière ultraviolette est utilisé comme source lumineuse de l'interféromètre. L'adaptabilité de l'interféromètre permet d'enregistrer les réseaux de Bragg pour le filtrage des longueurs d'onde dans la gamme de 1 275 nm à 1 575 nm tout en adaptant les éléments nécessaires de l'interféromètre de seulement +/- 0,75.degré. chacun.
