A method of forming a joist assembly (40) including the steps of forming a top chord (42), forming a bottom chord (44), bending a tubular member (46) into a serpentine configuration, positioning an upper bent portion of the tubular member (46) into the top chord (42), positioning a lower bent portion of the tubular member (46) into the bottom chord (44), and welding the tubular member (46) to the top chord (42) and to the bottom chord (44). The top (42) and bottom (44) chords are cold formed of a single length of generally rectangular tubular material.
