ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a method of forming a mounting barrel for a projection television tube. The method comprises the steps of forming a cylindrical barrel portion with a spider at one end and a hub centrally located on the spider, mounting the barrel portion on a lathe, and rotating the barrel portion in the lathe. At the same time, a circular aperture is formed in the hub, and a flat surface on the end of the barrel portion opposite to the hub portion and normal to the axis of rotation is formed. A conical surface is also formed simultaneously which intersects the flat surface. The mounting barrel thus formed may be used in a colour projection television receiver and projector and is accurately suspended within an evacuated envelope to produce an improved receiver and projector.
