The present invention relates to the inhalation delivery of aerosols containing small particles. Specifically, it relates to a method of forming an aerosol for use in inhalation therapy. In a method aspect of the present invention, a method of forming an aerosol for use in inhalation therapy is provided. The method involves the following steps: (a) heating a substrate coated with a composition comprising a drug at a rate greater than 1000 ~C/s, thereby forming an vapor; and, (b) allowing the vapor to cool, thereby forming an aerosol, which is used in inhalation therapy. In another method aspect of the present invention, a method of forming an aerosol for use in inhalation therapy is provided. The method involves the following steps: (a) heating a substrate coated with a composition comprising a drug to form a vapor, wherein the coated composition is in the form of a film less than 10 .theta. thick; and, (b) allowing the vapor to cool, thereby forming an aerosol, which is used in inhalation therapy. In another method aspect of the present invention, a method of forming an aerosol for use in inhalation therapy is provided. The method involves the following steps: (a) heating a substrate coated with a composition comprising a drug to form a vapor in less than 100 milliseconds, wherein the vapor has a mass greater than 0.1 mg; and, (b) allowing the vapor to cool, thereby forming an aerosol, which is used in inhalation therapy.
L'invention concerne l'administration, par voie inhalée, d'aérosols contenant de petites particules. En particulier, l'invention concerne un procédé de formation d'un aérosol à utiliser dans une thérapie d'inhalation. Dans un aspect d'un procédé de l'invention, un procédé de formation d'un aérosol à utiliser dans une thérapie d'inhalation est décrit. Ce procédé consiste à: (a) chauffer un substrat enrobé d'une composition comprenant un médicament à une vitesse supérieure à 1 000· C/s pour former une vapeur; et, (b) laisser la vapeur refroidir pour former un aérosol à utiliser dans une thérapie d'inhalation. Dans un autre aspect d'un procédé de l'invention, un procédé de formation d'un aérosol à utiliser dans une thérapie d'inhalation est décrit. Ce procédé consiste à: (a) chauffer un substrat enrobé d'une composition comprenant un médicament pour former une vapeur, la composition enrobée se présentant sous forme d'un film inférieur à 10µ d'épaisseur; et, (b) laisser la vapeur refroidir pour former un aérosol à utiliser dans une thérapie d'inhalation. Dans encore un autre aspect d'un procédé de l'invention, un procédé de formation d'un aérosol à utiliser dans une thérapie d'inhalation est décrit. Ce procédé consiste à: (a) chauffer un substrat enrobé d'une composition comprenant un médicament pour former une vapeur en moins de 100 millisecondes, la vapeur possédant une masse supérieure à 0,1 mg; et, (b) laisser la vapeur refroidir pour former un aérosol utilisé dans une thérapie d'inhalation.
