METHOD OF FORMING COLORED OXIDE FILM ON ALUMINUM OR ALUMINUM ALLOY Abstract of the disclosure A method of forming a colored oxide film on aluminum which contains metal impurities and on alluminum alloys by electrolysis of aluminum material by applying a rectangular pulse voltage thereto in an electrolytic bath consisting essentially of an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid to form an aluminum oxide film containing aluminum suboxides and having crystal lattice defects on the surface of the aluminum material, said rectangular pulse voltage having a peak voltage value in the range of from about 5 volts to about 120 volts and a period in the range of from about 0.2 seconds to about 120 seconds.
