ABSTRACT Screw threaded components are manufactured from sheet metal solely through a stamping operation. In this method one side of a workpiece is engaged by a die member having ridges thereon so as to provide a plurality of substant- ially parallel grooves extending in said one side from adjacent a first edge to adjacent the second edge opposite the first edge, the grooves being made more shallow and narrower than the desired screw thread. The one side is then engaged by an additional member which has ridges effective to deepen and widen the grooves to achieve the desired contour of the screw thread, the ridges being spaced apart a distance equal to the pitch of the thread to be produced. The workpiece is then bent to impart a substantially cylindrical configuration thereto with the ends of adjacent ones of the grooves being positioned substantially in alignment with each other at the first and second edges to define a helix. This results in a drastic reduction in the cost of producing such screw threaded parts and much faster pro- duction and savings of material while providing parts of superior performance and better appearance.
