ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for handling and growing a plant wherein a transparent growing vessel having parallel internal wills in its upper portion is partially filled with water and contains a young plant which is held resiliently by its stem in a ring-shaped retainer. The retainer is seated with a jamming action between the inner walls of the vessel and, together with plant, is vertically displaceable within the vessel. The vessel is closed at the top by a cap so that the young plant is in a restricted and closed-off living space. The plant is moved to a desired position to control its growth. The plant can be grown in this manner without disturbance and without the influence from the surroundings of the vessel.
