ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A thermoplastic bottle or preform having an inner hollow portion is heated internally by a heating member such as a metallic rod inserted therein and externally by a heating unit. There is provided a first heating zone in which the thermoplastic member mounted to the heating member is heated and a second heating zone for heating the heating member with the thermoplastic material removed, these heating zones being arranged on the way of circulation of the heating member. The temperature of the heating member is measured and controlled to a value suitable for heating the thermoplastic member while rotating in the second heating zone. The thermoplastic member to be heated may be heated with suitable axially varied radiant heat energy distribution in several preferred manners. The heating member may be provided with an inner cavity into which is enclosed a substance having a melting point ranged within an aiming control temperature of the heating member.
