A method to reduce lost postal revenue by identifying and sorting a mail piece by determining whether algorithmically-resolved image data corresponding to the mail piece indicates that the mail piece is business reply mail. The method is facilitated in part by maintaining data related to each business reply customer account. The business reply customer data is consulted and compared to a predetermined set of criteria to ascertain if the possibly incomplete, incorrect, or ambiguous data discernable from the captured image of the mail piece is indicative of, at a minimum, that the mail piece is business reply for the purpose of sortation to an appropriate business reply collection point, and in addition, that a high-confidence match to a customer account can be obtained for the purpose of automated charge assessment. Machine-readable sortation signals are generated in accordance with the most refined level of sortation indicated by the consultation.
L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet de réduire la perte de revenu postal par identification et tri d'un courrier, en déterminant si des données d'image à résolution algorithmique correspondantes au courrier présentent celui-ci comme un courrier-réponse d'affaires. La mise en oeuvre du procédé est facilitée par la conservation des données se rapportant à chaque compte de client de courrier-réponse d'affaires. Les données client de courrier-réponse d'affaires sont consultées et comparées à un ensemble de critères préétabli en vue de vérifier si des données éventuellement incomplètes, erronées ou ambiguës décelables dans l'image capturée du courrier indiquent, au minimum, d'une part que celui-ci est un courrier-réponse d'affaires dont on peut effectuer le tri jusqu'à un point de collecte de courriers-réponse approprié; d'autre part qu'une comparaison de haute fiabilité avec un compte de client peut être obtenue aux fins d'une évaluation automatisée de la taxe postale. Des signaux de tri lisibles par ordinateur sont générés conformément au niveau de tri le plus affiné indiqué par la consultation.
