The invention relates to a vertical mother-child transmission route of human herpesviruses, which enables the development of an animal model that can be used to identify potentially-useful compounds for the treatment and/or prevention of infections and diseases caused by human herpesviruses. The method of identifying such compounds consists in experimentally infecting a female of a non-human animal with human herpesviruses, before or after the administration of the compound to be tested, crossing same with a male of the same species and analysing the presence of human herpesviruses in the offspring and/or determining the effect of said compound on the offspring or the mother. Alternatively, the compounds to be tested can be administered to the human-herpesvirus-carrying descendants, instead of the mother, and the effect on such animals analysed.

Selon l'invention, on a découvert une voie de transmission verticale mère-fils d'herpèsvirus humains qui permet de développer un modèle animal utile pour identifier des composés potentiellement utiles dans le traitement et/ou la prévention d'infections et de maladies causées par les herpèsvirus humains. La méthode permettant d'identifier ces composés consiste à infecter expérimentalement une femelle d'un animal non humain avec des herpèsvirus humains, avant ou après l'administration du composé à tester, à l'accoupler avec un mâle de la même espèce et à analyser la présence d'herpèsvirus humains chez la descendance et/ou à déterminer l'effet dudit composé sur la descendance ou la mère. Dans une variante, les composés à tester, au lieu d'être administrés à la mère, peuvent être administrés aux descendants porteurs d'herpèsvirus humains, puis l'effet exercé sur ces animaux est analysé.
