A transformant plant having a formaldehyde metabolic pathway via the Calvin cycle is obtained by transferring a hexulose-6-phosphate synthase gene and a 6- phosphohexulose isomerase gene into a plant and expressing them in the chloroplast. This transformant plant has a tolerance to formaldehyde and makes it possible to significantly decrease environmental formaldehyde. Therefore, it is expected that this plant contributes to environmental purification when located in a house, an office, etc.
