A method of increasing power available from the engine of a controlled-output vehicle to power take off and a high output power take off (HOPTO) vehicle produced by application of the method. The method includes providing a split shaft powered by the engine and engaged with both a drive shaft and a HOPTO. The split shaft may selectably power either the drive shaft or the HOPTO. The method further includes enabling the engine to provide sufficient output while stationary to power the HOPTO at a selected level. The engine may be enabled to provide such output in a number of ways, for example by relocating the vehicle speed sensor to generate a speed signal while the vehicle is stationary.
