A method of inhibiting the metabolism of cholesterol, comprising administering to a subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising a dioxabicyclo- [3.3.0]octane derivative represented by the following general formula (I): Image (I) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, or R1 and R2 and/or R4 and R5 together form a methylene group or an ethylene group, and n, m and ? are 0 or 1.
