A process for initiating a premature roll change of a web to be unwound from a spool, the process including the steps of measuring temperature at an end of the spool in a zone up to 150 mm away from a surface of the spool in a radial direction during a time that the roll has between 100% and 60% of its fully wound weight, using a non-contact measuring device, determining a radial distance from the spool surface when a temperature difference 0.5 °C is found between temperature measurement locations in the zone and cooler adjacent areas, and storing the determined distance for triggering a signal that initiates a replacement of the roll when that distance is reached.

L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet de détecter les défectuosités intervenant lors de l'enroulage de bandes de papier, à l'intérieur du rouleau (1, 1') directement sur le mandrin (2) ou au-dessus. Selon ce procédé, on mesure sans contact la température (8, 8') à l'avant, lorsque le rouleau (1, 1') comporte entre 100 et 60 % de sa charge, pendant l'enroulage ou le déroulage. Lorsqu'une différence de températures de 0,5 DEG C est détectée entre des points ou des surfaces planes de mesure (6, 6') dans une zone (Z) située dans la partie centrale du rouleau et dans des zones adjacentes (5) plus froides, la distance radiale par rapport à la surface du mandrin est déterminée et mémorisée pour déclencher un signal qui initie le changement de rouleau lorsque cette distance est atteinte.
