A wireless communication device identifies a preferable wireless service provider in a multi-service provider environment using a search schedule based on information gathered by the wireless telecommunications network. The information may be related to prior registrations of the said devices or other devices. The information may be used to establish the last location of the said device to within a cell and to project the likely location of the device when next powered up. Based on this information, an optimal search schedule may be designed, either in the network or outside of the network, and used by the device on the next power-up. The information or the search schedule may be downloaded to the device either over the air or manually. Additionally, the user may transmit to the network specific information on the user's next location and that information may be combined with other information gathered by the network in the design of a new search schedule for the next power-up of the device. The information or search schedule provided to the device may be changed dynamically to reflect changes in the location of the device or in prior usage history.
Un dispositif de communication sans fil identifie un fournisseur de services sans fil préférable dans un environnement de fournisseurs de services multiples au moyen d'une stratégie de recherche basée sur l'information recueillie par le réseau de télécommunications sans fil. Cette information peut être rapprochée d'enregistrements préalables desdits dispositifs ou d'autres dispositifs. On peut utiliser cette information afin d'établir la dernière localisation dudit dispositif à l'intérieur d'une cellule et de projeter cette localisation présumée du dispositif lors de sa prochaine mise en service. Cette information permet d'élaborer une stratégie de recherche optimisée, soit dans le réseau, soit hors du réseau, et de mettre en application cette stratégie par le dispositif à sa prochaine mise en service. On peut télécharger cette information ou la stratégie de recherche vers le dispositif, soit en direct, soit manuellement. De plus, l'utilisateur peut transmettre au réseau une information spécifique concernant sa prochaine localisation et cette information peut être combinée à d'autres informations recueillies par le réseau afin d'élaborer une nouvelle stratégie de recherche pour la prochaine mise en service du dispositif. On peut modifier dynamiquement l'information ou la stratégie de recherche appliquée au dispositif, de façon à réfléchir les modifications de la localisation du dispositif ou l'historique d'une utilisation précédente.
